On Monday March 2nd the Central Oregon, Strawberry Mountain, and Mount Hood FFA Districts gathered in Bend, Oregon, for the sectionals contest. Shayne Dinger, Cheyanne Strong, Colleen Hunt, Avery Overton, and Joe Carlon attended sectionals. This contest is a follow up for all the members who placed in the top two at the district contest. The events they competed in were prepared speaking, extemporaneous speaking, parliamentary procedure, cooperative test, job interview, and chapter books.
Cheyanne Strong and Shayne Dinger both competed in prepared speaking at sectionals. Cheyanne Strong was in sophomore speaking which consists of writing a four to six minute speech on an agriculture subject and then memorize and present it to the panel of judges. Her speech was about equine destruction of the west and how the wild horses are destroying the rangelands. Cheyanne unfortunately did not place in the top three but did well.
Shayne Dinger competed in beginning speaking and her speech was intended to be three to five minutes long on an agriculture subject. Her speech involved water rights, and how ranchers and farmers deal with the laws and regulations. Shayne did not move on to state but did a great job.
Avery Overton and Joe Carlon both took the cooperative quiz. This is a written quiz on agriculture business. The test involves multiple choice and true or false questions. An example of a question would be:” If a cooperative, in effect, operates at cost when it returns its net savings to its patrons.” Avery Overton did very well in this contest. He placed 1st and did not miss one question on the quiz. Joe Carlon did well placing third. Avery Overton will be moving onto state.
We had many members in the chapter books contest. Beverly Henkel entered a technology scrapbook which is a power point done on the computer on our FFA chapter. Beverly placed 1st and will be going onto state. Amanda Dark entered a secretary book which is a record of all our chapter meetings and committee reports. Amanda placed 3rd. Cheyanne completed the chapter’s scrapbook. This book contains the contests the North lake FFA chapter attended and the many memories made at them. She placed 2nd moving on to state. Kory Worthington entered the treasurer’s book and advanced portfolio. The treasurer’s book is a record of all the expenses and profit that the chapter has made. The advanced portfolio is a power point of all her personal activities she has participated in, in the FFA. She placed 2nd with the treasurer’s book and 2nd with her portfolio advancing to state with both. The chapter books as a whole placed 2nd in the sectionals competition. The hard work of the North Lake chapter paid off in the end of this contest. Well done members.
We would like to remind all of our FFA parents and supporters that the annual chapter banquet will take place Monday, April 6th. Ceremonies will begin at exactly 6:30 P.M. Thank you for all you do.
